Overview Collection
The Overview collection is inspired by Elliott Barnes’ childhood landscapes in Los Angeles. It also bears witness to the strong ties forged over the years between the architect and Tai Ping. “In any story, there are several stories", says Elliott Barnes. “In 1958, Tai Ping was commissioned by Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. The carpet was so large that it didn’t fit within their modest workshop, so the manufacturer had to erect a tent outside the factory. A typhoon came and nearly blew the tent away. Thanks to the dedication of the carpet artisans, who fought to maintain the tent on the ground in the middle of the tropical storm, the order was completed and delivered on time,” he says. The story of the Tai Ping tent reveals a commitment to customer service, know-how and responsibility, while Grauman’s Chinese Theatre itself is located in Elliott Barnes’ hometown, the starting point of inspiration for the Overview collection.
Comprised of five original designs executed in six hand-tufted rugs, Overview takes us back in time and space to the City of Angels for the architect’s ‘trip down memory lane’.
